High School Senior photography is all about creating images that you love, are insta-worthy, postable, and make your parents proud to share with family. Seniors look forward to this milestone, it is your moment to say this is “Who I am. This is whom I’ve become.”
Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your high school senior photo session and make it the experience of a lifetime.

Wardrobe consideration for high school senior photography
It’s a big deal! You know that feeling when you wear your favorite outfit. The one that makes you look fabulous, let’s start there. Think about what style best reflects your personality and what colors wake up your skin tone. These are important dynamics to pay attention to when selecting your outfits.
I would suggest keeping solid in color, limiting patterns that will draw attention away from your face – prints and logos are distracting. Darker shades tend to make people look slimmer. Try not to wear flesh-tone or shades of white, these colors sometimes wash you out and can dominate the photo.
Tank tops may not be the best choice for photographs, they accentuate your arms, distracting from your beautiful face and expression. Round and square faces look good in a square neck top, while thin faces are attractive with round -neck tops.
Bring several choices of clothing to your photo session. This will give you a variety of options and add a little fun to the shoot. If you are doing a location photo session, keep in mind that you may have limited to no options for a dressing room. Be prepared that you could have to change discreetly or in your car. In these situations it’s best to choose more than one top to go with a pair of pants, shorts, skirt or capris. Consider bringing a dressy outfit, this will add variety to your portfolio.
Make sure your clothing is WRINKLE-FREE. If you can see the wrinkles, so can the camera. Underwear lines and bra straps will also be visible in your photographs.

Hair, Nails, Skin and Glasses for high school senior photography
Nails will be seen, make sure they are photo ready.
Photo day is not a good time to try a new hairstyle but many seniors choose to have a blow out prior to their photo session. Boys should have their hair trimmed one week prior to their photo session and should be freshly shaved.
Don’t worry about blemishes. Skilled photographers have the ability to eliminate them in your finished photographs. This is an important option to consider when choosing your high school senior photographer. If you choose a photographer that gives you all the digital files for a flat fee, most likely there is no retouching, what you see is what you get.
Glasses can be worn if you wear them all the time, however, remember that glare is very challenging and can limit the posing and lighting options. Photoshop artwork can sometimes eliminate the glare, depending on the severity. Another option is to ask your optometrist to remove your lenses for the photo session or ask if he can provide you with a pair of glasses without lenses.

Personality
Show off your culture, traditions, hobbies and interests with props and cultural attire. These will be a treasure for you and your family in the future.
Let your personality come through with location choice. Do you like the water, groomed gardens, woodsy trails or an urban environment?
Since this is a once in a lifetime event, I cannot emphasize enough to invest in a professional photographer whose experience with lighting techniques, posing and retouching will provide you with images that you and your family love.
